Rara Queen of the lakes in Nepal
Rara Lake which lies in Mugu district in western part of Nepal at an altitude of 2990m, has earned its title of ‘Queen of the Lakes’, blessing the mountainous region with its elegance and tranquility. The lake lies within the Rara National Park, which is the smallest national park of Nepal.The National Park was named after the lake "Rara".
Rara Lake has been a favorite travel destination for internal as well as external tourist. Regardless the remote location of the lake one can be there by air ,flights from kathmandu or from Nepalgunj to Talcha airport in Mugu district or by trek, total of ten days which starts and ends at Jumla. Rara Lake is only hours walk from Talcha airport.
The trek trail passes from the Rara national park which starts from 1400m altiude, from between the pass of karnali gorge, into dense forest to reach the Rara Lake. On the way the multicultural ethnic communities and harmonized blend of Buddhism and Hinduism can be experienced. The trek offers stunning views of western Nepal landscape. Rara has more than just impressive views. Hidden away from the chaos of Kathmandu, one could appreciate the gentle lapping of the waves against the side of the boat and the noise of cows and goats grazing on the bank. The lake is heaven on earth!.
The national park, which is maintained by the Nepal Army, is pristine and gives any adventurer the opportunity to get lost in its wonders.
