Chandragiri Hill Day Tour Overview

The hills of Chandragiri are historically significant parts of Nepal that attracts travellers from all over the world as well as the the locals residing in Nepal. From these hills, King Prithvi Narayan Shah who is the first king of Nepal first saw a very picturesque and prosperous valley of Kathmandu, which instilled in him the idea of annexing this valley to his kingdom. Ancient legends tell us that Prithvi Narayan Shah gathered spiritual powers for the unification process after undergoing a rigorous "sadhana" or meditation in these hills. As he climbed the hills, King Prithvi Narayan Shah disguised himself so that he would not be recognized by the Malla kings of the Kathmandu Valley.

Chandragiri Hill, which is about 7 kilometers from Thankot, is located southwest of Kathmandu Valley. At about 2551 meters above sea level, the hill offers high peaks and breathtaking views of the entire Kathmandu Valley, which is covered in lush flora. From Chandragiri, you can see the Kathmandu Valley and the Himalayas, which range from Annapurna to Everest.

The view tower, located 2,551 meters above sea level, provides an unobstructed 180-degree view of the majestic Himalayas. If you want a fond memory that you can look back upon then you definitely visit Chandragiri and you can do so easily, safely and comfortably with our Chandragiri Hill Day Tour. These hills also have a children's playground which have exciting play things for the childrens such as climbing ropes, swings, slides, seesaws, and a jungle gym etc so if your  are family and are wondering where to visit in your next travel then our Chandragiri Hill Day Tour which takes you to Chandragiri Hill should be in your priority as with these playground you can keep your children entertained while also having fun yourself by sightseeing this amazing hill with your family members. Chandragiri Cable Car:

This method is the easiest way for you to reach Chandragiri Hill, which is with the help of Chandragiri Cable Car. We especially recommend this method if you are thinking of going to Chandragiri Hill with your family, as the second method is by hiking, which is pretty difficult especially if you are travelling with your children. And our Chandragiri Hill Day Tour will also cover the ticket fare so you won't have to worry if you will need to spend extra on ticket. The 2.5-kilometer-long ropeway (cable car) ride from Thankot to the top of Chandragiri begins at the base station, our private vehicle will take you till there, and our tour guide will also be there with you so all you need to is well, just sit back comfortably as you enjoy this tour with your family if you take this method. The 2.5km route takes only about 9 minutes to complete. So in just about 9 minutes you will reach Chandragiri Hill.

And after reaching there you will then explore the place properly , do sightseeing, admire the scenic beauty , enjoy the time with your family or alone if you are travelling alone, take pictures etc basically do everything to enjoy your time there, you can also stay for a long time till you are satisfied as the cable car runs from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, and on weekends and public holiday, it would run from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m, after you properly explored everything you would now take the cable that goes back to Thankot and after reaching Thankot you will once again take our private car and then finally drive back to Kathmandu thus ending your relaxing and fun tour to Chandragiri Hill on our Chandragiri Hill Day Tour.

Hiking

The second method you can take is hiking, this method is for those who want to immerse themselves in nature while experiencing the journey at a slower and more adventurous pace. The hiking trail will go through temples, lush forests, and you will also get to enjoy refreshing tea breaks, and the feeling you will get after reaching Chandragiri Hill after a long and difficult hiking is something that just can't be explained in words, but it’s definitely something you can brag about to others your whole life that’s for sure.

As you ascend, you’ll be greeted by fresh mountain air and the sounds of nature, making the hike both refreshing and rewarding. Whether you're an experienced trekker or a beginner looking for an adventurous escape, this hike to Chandragiri Hill will provide you with an unforgettable experience filled with stunning vistas and peaceful surroundings.

Below are the steps involved in the hiking method in our Chandragiri Hill Day Tour:

1. Drive to Matatirtha Temple

The journey starts with a drive to Matatirtha Temple, a temple that is located just outside Kathmandu. Depending on your needs and preference, you can take either public transport or a private vehicle both of which are available in our tour and both of these offer a pleasant ride through the outskirts of the bustling city.

Matatirtha Temple is a temple that holds deep religious significance, especially among Hindu devotees. This sacred site is dedicated to Mother’s Day rituals in Nepal, where people gather from various places to pay homage to their deceased mothers, offering prayers as a symbol of love and remembrance. The temple has a serene surrounding, and is nestled amidst lush greenery and rolling hills, which provides the perfect setting for a peaceful start to your journey.

As you start to explore the temple slowly, you’ll start to notice small ponds and traditional stone structures, adding to the spiritual charm of the place. Locals often visit Matatirtha seeking blessings and tranquility, making it a wonderful spot to experience Nepali culture and devotion firsthand.

After you have explored nearly everything before leaving, be sure to  take a moment to soak in the peaceful atmosphere, listen to the gentle sounds of prayer chants, and appreciate the rich spiritual heritage of Nepal. With your mind now refreshed and heart full, your journey to explore the wonders of Kathmandu Valley truly begins as you will take the next step with us.

2. Tea Break at a Local Spot

Now that you have visited Matatirtha Temple and your mind is now refreshed and ready for more you may be thinking we will start the hard journey again, but wait before that you’ll take a refreshing break at a local tea shop, where you can taste a cup of authentic Nepali tea which is sure to leave you with endless aftertaste. This tea break is more than just a pause in the journey, it's also an opportunity for you to experience the warmth of Nepali hospitality and indulge in a beloved local tradition.

Nepali tea (Chiya) is a popular drink that trekkers, travelers, and locals all love. The tea is made with a combination of black tea, milk, sugar, and other aromatic spices like cardamom, ginger, and cloves etc creating a flavorful and soothing drink that you will definitely like. Some tea stalls there also offer butter tea (Suja) which is a salty and creamy Tibetan specialty and is  perfect for those who are looking for something unique.

Now picture this in your mind, you are sitting peacefully in a small and peaceful roadside tea shop either by yourself or with your family, sipping on steaming hot chiya, and also chatting with friendly locals, isn’t it just wonderful. This part about taking a break and drinking tea and relaxing and enjoying the view is truly important and meaningful as it offers a glimpse into everyday life in Nepal, about how locals spend their day to day life. With relaxing ambiance, the gentle hum of conversations, the clinking of tea glasses, and the distant views of rolling hills adding to the experience, it truly is something extraordinary that’s for sure.

This mid-journey break not only allows you to recharge but also lets you immerse yourself in the local culture before continuing on your adventure. Now let’s continue with our next destination in our journey.
