The Everest Heli Trek Is a remarkable adventure that combines the thrill of trekking to the base of the world’s highest mountain with the luxury of a helicopter ride back to Lukla. Starting in Kathmandu, you’ll fly to Lukla and then begin your trek through Sherpa villages, old Buddhist monasteries, and stunning mountain landscapes, including views of popular mount Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse.

After reaching Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar for 360 overall views of the surrounding peaks, you'll take a helicopter flight back, flying over the serene Gokyo Lakes and the Khumbu Valley. This trek allows you to enjoy the luxury of a helicopter ride, providing you with breathtaking views of the Khumbu Valley and Sherpa lands from the skies. Everest Base Camp itself is also famous for its lively cultural exchange and stunning views of the Himalayan, including Mt. Lhotse, Nuptse, and Changtse. The region also has spiritual beauty, with colorful Buddhist prayer flags fluttering in the wind, adding to the majestic and peaceful atmosphere that surrounds this place, making this trip even more enjoyable.

During our Everest Heli Trek, we will visit the base camp of the world's highest mountain, Mt. Everest, as well as Kala Patthar, which is another popular destination in the Everest region. The 12-day trip begins in Kathmandu, then we fly to Lukla the next day to begin the trek. On our way back to Lukla from Gorak Shep, we'll ride in a helicopter. The helicopter ride over the clean and pure Gokyo Lake, which is also a popular hiking destination for hikers traveling through the Everest region, is another exciting and memorable part of our trip to Everest.

Detailed Itinaries

DAY 1

Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m/4,428ft)

After landing at the Tribhuwan International Airport, you will be greeted by a representative from our Go Nepal Travel Tours and Treks Pvt. Ltd., who will drop you to your hotel. After checking in at the hotel, you can refresh and relax. In the evening, we will organize a welcome dinner for you with delicious Nepali cuisines. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 1 - Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m/4,428ft)
DAY 2

Fly to Lukla, trek to Phakding (2,651m/8,700ft): 40 minutes flight; 8km, 3 - 4 hours trek

On day 2 of our Everest Heli Trek, after having breakfast we take a scheduled early morning flight to Lukla, which is the starting point where all Everest trek begins. We meet up with the rest of our team in Lukla and start our trekking from there. We walk on a path that gradually descends to the village of Cheplung from where we see Mt. Khumbila, which is a sacred mountain that has never been climbed. From there, we descend gradually until we reach Phakding.The night on this day will be spent at Phakding.

Day 2 - Fly to Lukla, trek to Phakding (2,651m/8,700ft): 40 minutes flight; 8km, 3 - 4 hours trek
DAY 3

Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,438m/11,280 ft): 11km, 5 - 6 hours

On day 3 of our Everest Heli Trek, we continue on our trekking after having breakfast, our path crosses a beautiful pine forest and we continue our way on the road that goes up to the north in the valley of Benkar. We walk past the Dudh Koshi River and pass through the villages of Chumoa and Monjo before arriving at the entrance of the Everest National Park. After entering the park, we climbed a steep path that has incredible views in the surroundings. Going further, we arrive at Namche Bazaar, which is the largest city in the Everest region. The night on this day will be spent in the Namche bazaar.

Day 3 - Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,438m/11,280 ft): 11km, 5 - 6 hours
DAY 4

Namche Bazaar: acclimatization

On day 4 of our Everest Heli Trek, we will spend an extra day in Namche Bazaar which will help us get used to the high altitude and the decrease of oxygen in the air. Namche Bazaar is a place that is just full of activities to do, there are government offices, ATMs, cybercafé’s, local shops, restaurants and a lively market to explore. We can also hike to the Sagarmatha National Park and enjoy the sunrise over the Himalayas like Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Kongde and so on. If we are also interested in doing a day hike, then we can walk to the village of Khumjung. We will also visit the Hillary school and an old monastery there. We will spend the night in the Namche bazaar. 

Day 4 - Namche Bazaar: acclimatization
DAY 5

Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3,870m/12,694ft): 10km, 5 - 6 hours

On day 5 of our Everest Heli Trek, after breakfast we started our trek by descending to the Dudh-Koshi River and then walking along the rhododendron forests to reach Tengboche. Going down to the Dudh Kish River, we get to enjoy the magnificent view of the mountain peaks such as Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kongde, etc. Upon reaching Tengboche, we visit the Tengboche Monastery, which is the largest monastery in the area, and enjoy the beautiful views of Everest, Ama Dablam and other peaks. The night on this day will be spent in Tengboche.

Day 5 - Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3,870m/12,694ft): 10km, 5 - 6 hours
DAY 6

Tengboche to Dingboche (4,360 m/14,300 ft): 9km, 5 - 6 hours

On Day 6 of our Everest Heli Trek, we descend through beautiful forests filled with birch, conifer, and rhododendron trees. Along the way, we are once again rewarded with stunning beautiful views of Mount Everest, Lhotse and Ama Dablam. The scenic path descends to Devuche, walks past the Imja River and takes us to Pangboche. The path at the top of Pangboche rewards us with a more clear view of the Himalayas and the Pangboche Monastery. The walk advances towards the valley of Imja, the Lobuche River and finally, it begins to rise to Dingboche. Night in Dingboche.

Day 6 - Tengboche to Dingboche (4,360 m/14,300 ft): 9km, 5 - 6 hours
DAY 7

Dingboche: Acclimatization

On Day 7 of our Everest Heli Trek, we spent the day today in Dingboche for acclimatization. Dingboche is a popular spot for trekkers and climbers who are heading towards Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, or Imja Tse. This charming and beautiful village is surrounded by stone walls that protect fields of barley, buckwheat, and potatoes from the cold winds and grazing animals. For the acclimatization hike, we can also take short trips to Nagarjun Hill or Chhukhung Valley, where we’re rewarded with the breathtaking views of Makalu, Lhotse, Cholatse, Tawache, and the stunning Ama Dablam.

 

Day 7 - Dingboche: Acclimatization
DAY 8

Dingboche to Lobuche (4940 m/16,207 ft): 7km, 5-6 hours

On Day 8 of our Everest Heli Trek, we start the day with a gradual ascent to Duglha at the end of the Moraine Terminal of Khumbu Glacier. From there, we climb a steep path to reach Chupki Lhara, where we find a series of stones with prayer flags used as memorials by Scott Fischer (who is a American mountaineer) and Babu Chiri Sherpa (a Nepali Mountain Guide) who perished on a mission to climb Everest. We continue our journey towards the Khumbu Moraine Glacier, where we are greeted by a stunning display of towering peaks, such as Khumbutse, Lingtren, Pumori, and the majestic Mahalangur Himal. As we follow the valley towards Lobuche, the terrain becomes more relaxed, providing us a chance to admire the breathtaking surroundings properly. We end the day with an overnight stay in Lobuche, a peaceful village nestled in the shadow of the towering peaks.

Day 8 - Dingboche to Lobuche (4940 m/16,207 ft): 7km, 5-6 hours
DAY 9

Lobuche to Gorak Shep (5,170 m/16,961ft), visit Everest Base Camp (5,364 m/17,594 ft): 13km, 6-7 hours

On Day 9 of our Everest Heli Trek, we take the road to Everest base camp through the vast lake Gorak Shep. Continuing straight, we find the Indian army mountaineers' memorials. The road from here can be quite confusing, so it is important that we follow our Sherpa guide properly and not carelessly. Walking is difficult due to the lack of oxygen at high altitude. We cross rocky dunes, moraines and streams before arriving at Everest base camp. Upon arriving at the base camp of Everest, we see tents of mountaineers that stand out in bright colors against the gray environments (especially in the spring) there. Nuptse, Khumbuste and Pumori are the mountains which are visible from the base camp. We return to Gorak Shep for a good night's sleep. Overnight in Gorak Shep.

Day 9 - Lobuche to Gorak Shep (5,170 m/16,961ft), visit Everest Base Camp (5,364 m/17,594 ft): 13km, 6-7 hours
DAY 10

Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar, back to Gorak Shep, fly to Lukla by Helicopter: 3 km, 3-4 hours trek

On Day 10 of our Everest Heli Trek, we prepare for today's journey from an early start in the dark and cold temperatures before dawn (-10 to -14 ° C). As we make our way towards Kalapatthar, we also may experience cold winds, which are quite common at these altitudes. The famous peaks of Lingtren, Khumbutse, and Changtse rise to the east, with Mount Everest slowly beginning to reveal its presence. Upon reaching Kalapatthar (5,545 m), we are treated to a breathtaking 360-degree overall view of the surrounding peaks, with Everest standing majestically in the distance. We take a moment to capture this incredible view, admiring the amazing beauty of the Himalayas. Then, we board a helicopter for a scenic flight back to Lukla. The helicopter ride takes us over the serene waters of Gokyo Lake, a place of deep cultural significance for the people in Nepal. After admiring the immense beauty of the lake, we continued our journey to Lukla for an overnight stay.

Day 10 - Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar, back to Gorak Shep, fly to Lukla by Helicopter: 3 km, 3-4 hours trek
DAY 11

Fly to Kathmandu

On Day 11 of our Everest Heli Trek, we take a scheduled early morning flight back to Kathmandu. After arriving in Kathmandu, we can rest up for the day or do some souvenir shopping or we can even explore other areas of Kathmandu if you are interested. Our guides can help you with your purchases of souvenirs or sightseeing. There will also be a farewell dinner in the evening organised by us Go Nepal Travel Treks and Tours to celebrate the success of our trip. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 11 - Fly to Kathmandu
DAY 12

Final departure

Day 12 of our Everest Heli Trek is unfortunately our final day as our exciting, serene and eventful adventure on Everest in Nepal ends today. A representative from our Go Nepal Travel Treks and Tours Pvt. Ltd. will drop you off at the Tribhuvan International Airport a few hours before the scheduled flight.

Day 12 - Final departure

Useful Information

  1. Everest Base Camp Heli Trek is an amazing trekking and helicopter tour combination. 
  2. Most of the time, the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour is sunny, but if it is cloudy, it will be freezing cold, so, do be prepared. 
  3. Weather of the base camp keeps changing in a short amount of time. 
  4. Everest base camp is inside the Sagarmatha National Park which is on the list of UNESCO world heritage sites. 
  5. Mount Everest is also called Chomolungma and Sagarmatha.
