This enriching tour provides you with a unique opportunity to explore two of the Himalayas' most spiritually profound and culturally rich countries, Nepal and Bhutan. In just a few days, you’ll journey through ancient cities, sacred temples, and peaceful mountain landscapes, experiencing the deep spiritual roots and lively traditions of both Hinduism and Buddhism.

You will start your adventure in Kathmandu, which is the heart of Nepal, where old temples, lively markets, and many different UNESCO World Heritage Sites await for you to visit. Then you will fly to Bhutan, which is a peaceful kingdom where Gross National Happiness guides development of the country, and monasteries are on cliffs above green valleys. You will get to explore Paro, Thimphu, and Punakha, hike to the legendary Tiger’s Nest Monastery, and immerse yourself in the customs and cuisine of Bhutan.

Detailed Itinaries

DAY 1

Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m/4,428ft)

Upon arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by a representative of our Go Nepal Travel Tours and Treks Pvt. Ltd. who will drive you to your hotel. After checking-in at the hotel, you can rest and refresh yourself for the time being. In the evening, us Go Nepal Travel Tours and Treks Pvt. Ltd. will do a welcome dinner in a traditional Nepali restaurant, where you can enjoy delicious Nepali cuisine. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 1 - Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m/4,428ft)
DAY 2

Kathmandu: Sightseeing and Preparation

On day 2 of our Nepal and Bhutan Tour, after having breakfast, we begin our tour to some of the most historical and spiritual attractions of Kathmandu, which are also classified as UNESCO World Heritage. We will visit the historic Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Nepal and even the world, Pashupatinath, the famous Monkey Temple (Swayambhunath) and the Buddhist Sanctuary (Bouddhanath), which is also one of the largest stupas in the world. In the evening, we will introduce ourselves to the other participants and discuss our trip to Bhutan for the next day. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 2 - Kathmandu: Sightseeing and Preparation
DAY 3

Fly to Paro (2,250m/7,382ft): 1 hour flight, city sightseeing

On day 3 of our Nepal and Bhutan Tour, we will take a morning flight to Bhutan, as our flight approaches Bhutan, we can enjoy the breathtaking beautiful views of the Himalayas, including the sacred peaks of Chomolhari and Jichu Drake. At the airport after arriving in Bhutan, you will be greeted by a representative of our Go Nepal Travel Tours and Treks Pvt. Ltd. who will then take you to your hotel. After lunch, we will visit Rinpung Dzong, which means "strength of the pile of jewels". Next up, we will visit Kichu Lhakhang, which is the oldest temple in Bhutan. From here we will move to visit the Drugyal Dzong (Victory Fortress of Bhutan), which was built in 1646 to commemorate the victory of Bhutan over the Tibetan invaders during the seventeenth century. On a clear day, we are also able to see Mount Chomolhari, which is the second highest mountain in Bhutan, at 7,314 meters. We will spend the night in Paro.

Day 3 - Fly to Paro (2,250m/7,382ft): 1 hour flight, city sightseeing
DAY 4

Paro to Thimphu (2,320m/7,610ft): 54 km, 1 hour drive: Hike to Taktsang Monastery

On day 4 of our Nepal and Bhutan Tour, after having a delicious breakfast, we walk around for about 4 to 5 hours to reach the Taktsang Monastery (Tiger's Nest), which is the most famous monastery in Bhutan, which is located at 3,180 meters. It is said that Guru Rinpoche (spiritual master) has flown on the back of a tigress to meditate in a cave where the Taktsang Monastery is now located. The monastery is located on the edge of a cliff, about 900 meters above the Paro valley. After exploring the monastery, we will walk down to the bottom of the valley and leave for reaching Thimphu. We will spend the night in Thimphu.

Day 4 - Paro to Thimphu (2,320m/7,610ft): 54 km, 1 hour drive: Hike to Taktsang Monastery
DAY 5

Hike to Wangditse Gompa followed by sightseeing in Thimphu

On day 5 of our Nepal and Bhutan Tour, in the morning, we will head towards the BBS Tower and then walk for about 1 hour to reach Wangditse Gompa on a same level path with a spectacular view of Tashichho Dzong. From here, we will also have the chance to witness the stunning view of the Samtenling Palace,  the residence of the Fourth King during his meditation retreat, and Dorje Drak Monastery on the slope of the upper hill. After touring the Gompa, we will return back to Thimphu.

 On the way, we will also visit the mini Zoo to see Takin, which is Bhutan's national animal. After lunch, we will then visit the King's Memorial Chorten (that was built in memory of the third king of Bhutan who reigned between 1952 and 1972), the nunnery temple, the National Library (which houses ancient manuscripts) and the National Institute of Traditional Medicine. 

We will also visit the Textile Museum, the Handicrafts Emporium, the traditional paper factory where handmade papers are crafted 0 and the majestic Tashichho Dzong which is a fortress and a monastery. In the evening, we can also enjoy strolling through the streets of Thimphu and observe the lively local lifestyle there. We will spend the night in Thimphu.

Day 5 - Hike to Wangditse Gompa followed by sightseeing in Thimphu
DAY 6

Thimphu to Punakha (1,250m/4,100ft): 76 km, 2 - 3 hours’ drive: Hike to Lungchutse Monastery

On day 6 of our Nepal and Bhutan Tour, after having breakfast, we will begin our journey with a scenic drive to the famous Dochula Pass (3,100 meters), one of Bhutan’s most popular viewpoints. On clear days, the pass provides an overall breathtaking view of the eastern Himalayan ranges, including some of Bhutan's highest peaks.

From the pass, we will go on a beautiful 2-hour hike to Lungchutse Monastery, starting from the 108 chortens (stupas). The path leads us through beautiful forests filled with rhododendrons, moss-draped firs, and hemlocks, all the while walking along high ridges with colorful Buddhist prayer flags. This peaceful walk rewards us with magnificent views of both the Himalayas and the deep valleys stretching below. After spending some time at Lungchutse and taking in the peaceful mountain atmosphere, we will then return to Dochula Pass for a delicious lunch.

In the afternoon, we will drive downhill through lush forests and scenic countryside until we reach Metshina Village. From here, we will enjoy a short, 20-minute walk through terraced rice fields to visit Chimi Lhakhang, the temple dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kuenley, also known as the "Divine Madman," a saint known for his unconventional teachings and humor. The day concludes with an overnight stay in the quiet town of Punakha, once the ancient capital of Bhutan.

Day 6 - Thimphu to Punakha (1,250m/4,100ft): 76 km, 2 - 3 hours’ drive: Hike to Lungchutse Monastery
DAY 7

Punakha to Paro: 130 km, 4 hours’ drive: Hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten

On day 7 of our Nepal and Bhutan Tour, at dawn, we will drive 12 km north of Punakha and start our two-hour walk to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten. A place that is located on a beautiful hill called Ngezergang, this place has paintings dedicated to the ancient sect of Buddhism which we can admire and get new knowledge. We will then walk further to reach Punakha. On the way back, we will also visit the Punakha Dzong, which was built in 1637. It is also the second oldest Dzong and the second largest in Bhutan. In the afternoon, we will head towards Paro where we will spend the night there.

Day 7 - Punakha to Paro: 130 km, 4 hours’ drive: Hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten
DAY 8

Fly to Kathmandu, sightseeing in Patan and Bhaktapur and sunset views from Nagarkot (2195m/7,201ft), 35 mins drive from Bhaktapur

On day 8 of our Nepal and Bhutan Tour, we will take an early morning flight to Kathmandu, during the flight we will get to enjoy the breathtaking views of , and on arrival in Kathmandu, a representative of our Go Nepal Travel Tours and Treks Pvt. Ltd. will pick you from the airport who will then transfer you to your hotel. After having a short break and refreshments, we will start our visit to many UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu. 

We will first go to Patan Durbar Square, a place that is full of ancient art and architecture, after exploring Patan Durbar Square for a while then we will go to our next destination which is Bhaktapur City Square, which is an charming city with an authentic local lifestyle, preserved for centuries from the isolation of the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu. While we are in Bhaktapur City Square, we will visit and admire the Nyata-Pola Temple, the Golden Gate and the Window 55 Palace, which all mix together to provide visitors visiting these places a magical open-air theatre-like atmosphere. We will try out the delicacy of the inhabitants of Bhaktapur.

After eating we will then drive to reach Nagarkot, which is a city famous for providing breathtaking views of the sunrise and sunset of the Himalayas, we will enjoy a spectacularly breathtaking view of the sunsets in the middle of the Himalayas at Nagarkot. We will spend the night in Nagarkot.

 

Day 8 - Fly to Kathmandu, sightseeing in Patan and Bhaktapur and sunset views from Nagarkot (2195m/7,201ft), 35 mins drive from Bhaktapur
DAY 9

Final departure

Day 9 of our Nepal and Bhutan Tour is unfortunately our final day as our exciting, culturally enriching and eventful adventure in Nepal and Bhutan ends today. There is nothing more for you to do then exchange emails and buy souvenirs or just take a rest. A representative from our Go Nepal Travel Treks and Tours Pvt. Ltd. will drop you off at the Tribhuvan International Airport three hours before the scheduled flight.

Day 9 - Final departure
