Lantang, Gosaikunda and Helambhu Trek Highlight

The Langtang–Gosaikunda–Helambu Trek combines three different regions, thus providing a complete Himalayan trekking experience. This route is perfect for trekkers who want to explore hidden natural beauty and cultural richness. The Langtang Valley is a mix of high Himalayan peaks and lush lower valleys, it is also home to rare wildlife like red pandas, snow leopards, wild deer, and many endangered birds and plants. In spring, the forests there are lively with blooming rhododendrons, orchids, and colorful magnolias, making the views of snow-capped peaks even more magical.

After exploring Langtang Valley, the trail goes to Gosaikunda, which is a sacred lake for both Hindus and Buddhists. This holy site draws many pilgrims from many places, especially during the full moon in August, when shamans also gather to perform rituals. From Gosaikunda, the trek crosses Laurebina Pass (4,610 m) and descends into Helambu Valley, this valley is known for its warm hospitality and lively Sherpa and Tamang cultures. The path through Helambu provides beautiful views and a more peaceful trekking atmosphere.

Detailed Itinaries

DAY 1

Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m/4,428ft)

After landing at the Tribhuwan International Airport, you will be greeted by a representative from our Go Nepal Travel Tours and Treks Pvt. Ltd. who will drop you off at the hotel where you will be staying at. After checking into the hotel, we refresh and rest for a while. In the evening, a welcome dinner will also be organized by us Go Nepal Travel Tours and Treks Pvt. Ltd. with delicious Nepali cuisines. The night on this day will be spent in Kathmandu.

Day 1 - Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m/4,428ft)
DAY 2

Kathmandu: Sightseeing and Trek Preparation

On day 2 of our  Langtang, Gosaikunda and Helambu Trek, after having an early morning breakfast, we begin a tour to visit many of Kathmandu's most historical and spiritual places. Some of these monuments are considered World Heritage sites, such as the Historic Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, the famous "Temple of the Monkeys" (Swayambhunath) and the Buddhist Sanctuary (Bouddhanath), which is one of the biggest stupas in the world. After the visit to these places, in the evening, there will be a pre-trip discussion during which we will meet up with our trek leader and other team members too. During this discussion you can ask any questions you may have about our next adventure. The night on this day will be spent in Kathmandu.

Day 2 - Kathmandu: Sightseeing and Trek Preparation
DAY 3

Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1,550m/5,100ft): 7-8 hours

On day 3 of our  Langtang, Gosaikunda and Helambu Trek, after having breakfast we leave Kathmandu early in the morning to reach Syabrubesi which is a village that is also the starting point for treks in the Langtang Valley. Our trip will be on a curvy twisting road through frequent switching. On a clear day, we can also get to enjoy an amazing view of Manaslu, Annapurna and Ganesh Himal. Our journey today ends with a descent to the small town of Syabrubesi. The night on this day will be spent in Syabrubesi.

Day 3 - Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1,550m/5,100ft): 7-8 hours
DAY 4

Trek from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (2,380m/7,830ft): 6 hours

On day 4 of our  Langtang, Gosaikunda and Helambu Trek, after having breakfast, we start our trip from Syabrubesi along the Langtang Khola. We ascend and descend many times through oak and beautiful rhododendron forests. After crossing a bridge over the Langtang Khola (small river), we ascend a steep path that will take us to the magnificent Hotel Lama. The night on this day will be spent at Hotel Lama.

Day 4 - Trek from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (2,380m/7,830ft): 6 hours
DAY 5

Trek to Mundu (3543m/11,621ft) via Langtang village: 6-7 hours

On day 5 of our  Langtang, Gosaikunda and Helambu Trek, we continue our ascent from the hotel Lama and enjoy the trek with the wonderful views of the mountainous landscape with its numerous waterfalls. After we arrive in the green pastures of Ghoda Tabela, we will start to see the snow white peaks of the Langtang Mountain range, which is a sight to remember. Our path continues through the valley, passing through temporary settlements used by shepherds. We also crossed a Buddhist monastery on the way before reaching the village of Langtang, which was hit by the earthquake of April 2015. We continue our way towards Mundu. The night on this day will be spent in Mundu.

Day 5 - Trek to Mundu (3543m/11,621ft) via Langtang village: 6-7 hours
DAY 6

Mundu to Kyangjin Gompa (3,870m/12,697ft): 4-5 hours

On day 6 of our  Langtang, Gosaikunda and Helambu Trek, after a morning breakfast, we will start our trek to Kyangjin Gompa, which is one of the main monasteries in the area. We will walk past water mills, spinning prayer wheels, and chortens and small Buddhist shrines along the trail. Sacred stone mounds with engraved prayers that are there will guide our way, and we also walk past the largest mani wall in Nepal, that is built with countless stones carved with sacred mantras. After a short walk, we will spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the Kyangjin Gompa, which is a peaceful Buddhist monastery, and take in the breathtaking mountain scenery that surrounds it. The night on this day will be spent in Kyangjin Gompa.

Day 6 - Mundu to Kyangjin Gompa (3,870m/12,697ft): 4-5 hours
DAY 7

Acclimatization- Explore Tserko Ri (5000m/16,404ft) 7-8 hours

On day 7 of our  Langtang, Gosaikunda and Helambu Trek, we will spend the whole day exploring Tserko Ri, which will also help us get used to the altitude. We start early in the morning after having breakfast. The path goes through the yak pastures before climbing to Tserko Ri. The view of the sunrise from the top of Tserko Ri is just mind-blowingly beautiful. After taking in the views of the early sunrise we will then return to Kyangjin Gompa in the afternoon and explore the beautiful monastery while admiring views of the Himalayas, glaciers, birds and yaks. The night on this day will be spent in Kyangjin Gompa.

Day 7 - Acclimatization- Explore Tserko Ri (5000m/16,404ft) 7-8 hours
DAY 8

Kyangjin Gompa to Lama Hotel: 6-7 hours

On day 8 of our  Langtang, Gosaikunda and Helambu Trek, we start our walk after having breakfast and retrace our steps to the Lama Hotel. Most of today's hikes will be downhill as we cross forests and beautiful villages of Tamang so it will be fairly easier compared to the ascending trek we did before. We will also get to enjoy different views of the Himalayas that we missed while climbing. The night on this day will be spent at hotel Lama.

Day 8 - Kyangjin Gompa to Lama Hotel: 6-7 hours
DAY 9

Lama Hotel to Thulo Syabru (2,230m/ 7,316 ft): 5-6 hours

On day 9 of our  Langtang, Gosaikunda and Helambu Trek, we start our trek by climbing up to the village of Rimche. From there we descend to the banks of Langtang Khola. We continue on the path that leads us to a bamboo forest and then begin our ascent to Landslide Lodge. From there, we continue our walk towards Thulo Syabru. There are two paths crossing another bridge. And we will follow the one that passes through the hotel Pahare and a waterfall at 2210 m to reach Thulo Syabru. The night on this day will be spent at Thulo Syabru.

Day 9 - Lama Hotel to Thulo Syabru (2,230m/ 7,316 ft): 5-6 hours
DAY 10

Thulo Syabru to Shin Gompa: 3-4 hours

On Day 10 of our Langtang, Gosaikunda, and Helambu Trek, the walk will be short but important for proper acclimatization. Sure it may be tempting to push onward to Gosaikunda, but it's essential to gain altitude gradually to adjust safely. After trekking for a while, we pass by a chorten and a checkpoint, then continue southward. The path leads us through the quiet village of Garta and the peaceful Phulung Monastery, before reaching Shin Gompa, where we rest for the night in the cool mountain air.

Day 10 - Thulo Syabru to Shin Gompa: 3-4 hours
DAY 11

Shin Gompa to Gosaikunda (4,460m/14,632ft): 5-6 hours

On Day 11 of our Langtang, Gosaikunda, and Helambu Trek, we can enjoy an amazing overall 360 views of the Himalayas, including the Annapurnas, Hiunchuli, Manaslu, Ganesh and Langtang. We follow a ridge for most of the day and also get a glimpse of the sacred lakes. The third lake, Gosaikunda (4380m), has a particular religious and cultural significance for the Nepali and is one of the most sought after places of pilgrimage in Nepal. The lake is surrounded by mountains on almost all sides and has a large set of nine other lakes to accompany it. Each year, during Janai Purnima in August, hundreds of Hindu pilgrims visit the lake for a holy bath. It is said that the large rock in the middle of the lake is the remains of a shrine of Shiva. The night on this day will be spent in Gosaikunda.

Day 11 - Shin Gompa to Gosaikunda (4,460m/14,632ft): 5-6 hours
DAY 12

Gosaikunda to Ghopte (3,440m/11,286ft): 6-8 hours

On Day 12 of our Langtang, Gosaikunda, and Helambu Trek, we admire and walk around the lake to take in the view properly before climbing to reach the Laurebina pass (4610 m). The region of Helambu begins at Lauribina La (walk) and descends into the Melamchi Valley. The road is hilly and passes through moraines, but it is well marked. We will walk past three smaller beautiful lakes before reaching the pass. We climb a small hill and can enjoy an excellent view of the area. Our path goes through Surya Kunda before arriving at Ghopte. The night on this day will be spent in Ghopte.

Day 12 - Gosaikunda to Ghopte (3,440m/11,286ft): 6-8 hours
DAY 13

Ghopte to Melamchigaon (2,560m/8,399ft): 6-7 hours

On Day 13 of our Langtang, Gosaikunda, and Helambu Trek, we will go up and down a path through dense forests. Walking through this path in the forest will take us to Thare Pati Village. We climb a ridge above the village and continue our walk. The view from the crest of the Nepali hills and Soli Danda especially is just magnificent. We will walk past two suspension bridges before reaching Melamchigaon, a beautiful town with a monastery. The night on this day will be spent in Melamchigaon.

Day 13 - Ghopte to Melamchigaon (2,560m/8,399ft): 6-7 hours
DAY 14

Melamchigaon to Tarkeghyang (2,590m/8,497ft): 5-6 hours

On Day 14 of our Langtang, Gosaikunda, and Helambu Trek, we will pass through a stupa and walk past a small stream below Tarkeghyang. Our path crosses the forests that lead to Ama Yangri, which is the highest point of our 3,800m walk. There is also a stupa there and Buddhist prayer flags at the top of the hill. In addition, we also have a chance to see the breathtaking view of the Mt. Shishapangma and the chains of Langtang. The mountains are so close that we feel we can almost touch them which just feels surreal. As we descend, we can also see yaks grazing in the bushes before entering a forest. We also pass through a broken stone path before reaching Tarkeghyang which is a beautiful Sherpa village. The night on this day will be spent in Tarkheghyang.

Day 14 - Melamchigaon to Tarkeghyang (2,590m/8,497ft): 5-6 hours
DAY 15

Tarkeghyang to Sermathang (2,610m/8,563ft): 3-5 hours

On Day 15 of our Langtang, Gosaikunda, and Helambu Trek, we start our trek after having breakfast. The path for today is mostly easy and goes through lush forests. We also cross beautiful villages, chortens, a monastery and a wall before reaching Sermathang. It is a beautiful Sherpa village with breathtaking views of Ganesh Himal, Jugal Himal and Langtang. On a clear day you can even get to see Mt. Everest in the distance. The night on this day will be spent in Sermanthang.

Day 15 - Tarkeghyang to Sermathang (2,610m/8,563ft): 3-5 hours
DAY 16

Trek to Melamchi Bazaar, drive to Kathmandu: 3-4 hours trek, 2 hours’ drive

On Day 16 of our Langtang, Gosaikunda, and Helambu Trek, we will walk through meadows, fields and beautiful villages to reach the Melamchi Bazaar. From there we head to Kathmandu and during the drive we have plenty of time to fondly recall our memories made during the trip to the Langtang and Helambu areas. Once arriving in Kathmandu, we relax our tired bodies. In the evening, there will be a farewell dinner organized by us to celebrate the success of our trip. The night on this day will be spent in Kathmandu.

Day 16 - Trek to Melamchi Bazaar, drive to Kathmandu: 3-4 hours trek, 2 hours’ drive
DAY 16

Trek to Melamchi Bazaar, drive to Kathmandu: 3-4 hours trek, 2 hours’ drive

On Day 16 of our Langtang, Gosaikunda, and Helambu Trek, we will walk through meadows, fields and beautiful villages to reach the Melamchi Bazaar. From there we head to Kathmandu and during the drive we have plenty of time to fondly recall our memories made during the trip to the Langtang and Helambu areas. Once arriving in Kathmandu, we relax our tired bodies. In the evening, there will be a farewell dinner organized by us to celebrate the success of our trip. The night on this day will be spent in Kathmandu.

Day 16 - Trek to Melamchi Bazaar, drive to Kathmandu: 3-4 hours trek, 2 hours’ drive
DAY 17

Final Departure

On Day 17 of our Langtang, Gosaikunda, and Helambu Trek, unfortunately our trek in Nepal ends today. A Go Nepal Travel Tours and Treks Pvt. Ltd. representative will drop you off at the airport about 3 hours before our scheduled flight. On the way back, you will have plenty of time to plan your next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal with us Go Nepal Travel Tours and Treks Pvt. Ltd .

Day 17 - Final Departure
